The Wikimedia Research Fund is currently accepting applications to assist individuals, teams, and institutions interested in studying Wikimedia projects or related topics.

To enhance the diversity, reach, quality, and quantity of free knowledge, the Wikimedia Foundation provides support to individuals and organisations globally. In line with the Wikimedia movement's strategic aim, they advance knowledge equity. Reaching marginalised populations, regional committees, and decentralised decision-making are the main goals of the funding initiatives.

The Wikimedia Foundation supports two kinds of research proposals: proposals that enhance the community of academics studying Wikimedia projects, and proposals that aim to improve understanding of Wikimedia projects and introduce technical solutions.

The Foundation provides support to candidates who have minimal financial resources, are located in underrepresented areas, work with Wikimedia affiliates, or have a direct and constructive influence.
