Fully Funded to Italy : Apply for United Nations SDG Action Awards 2024

Applications for the UN SDG Action Awards for 2024 are now being accepted! This esteemed programme, led by the UN SDG Action Campaign, recognises and rewards individuals and pioneering projects that use creativity and innovation to promote a just, sustainable, and peaceful world.

About the SDG Action Awards by the UN
The UN SDG Action Awards are given annually to recognise the work of global heroes who, despite extreme obstacles, give people hope and show that good things can always happen. In her stirring speech at the C7 Summit, Marina Ponti, Global Director of the UN SDG Action Campaign, said, "We all have a role in shaping a world that works—where justice and rights prevail for people and planet." Our ability to imagine is quite strong. Together, we can construct anything we can dream up.

Procedure for Selecting Awards
Over 5,000 applications are carefully reviewed by a technical review team and a high-level panel of judges from 190 countries. They choose the most influential Finalists, who go on to be nominated for the esteemed Awards.

Event and Onboarding Programme
October 2024 will see Rome, Italy host the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony. Together with a one-day Induction Programme, this motivational event will include well-known SDG leaders and international singers. The goal of this curriculum is to encourage the Finalists' creativity and teamwork through workshops and networking events.

All Finalists are encouraged to come in person, and their lodging and travel costs will be reimbursed. Global coverage of the ceremony will be ensured via its broadcast on UN WebTV and Rai, Italy's national broadcaster.

Regarding the SDG Action Campaign of the UN
The UN SDG Action Campaign, headquartered in Bonn, Germany and hosted by the Executive Office of the UNDP, aims to expedite progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to better serve people and the environment, economies and societies are reimagined in light of the Campaign's mandate to CONVENE, CAMPAIGN, and CATALYSE CHANGE. This drives worldwide activism.

Categories of Awards

  • Award for Creativity: Given to initiatives that use innovation to spur quantifiable SDG action. Examples include environmental laws spurred by the "Fight Forever Chemicals Campaign" and judicial reforms motivated by "A White Dress Doesn't Cover the Rape."
  • Impact Award: Given to projects that have a major, quantifiable effect across a range of industries. Two notable instances are Nigeria's "Follow the Money" project, which improves public spending accountability, and "The Masungi Story," which stopped deforestation in the Philippines.
  • The Changemaker Award honours people who are spearheading campaigns for justice, equality, and human rights. Examples include Nery Santaella, who assists Venezuelan migrants, and Srishti Bakshi, who travelled 3,800 kilometres across India to raise awareness of violence against women.
