FULLY FUNDED TO JAPAN : Apply for the Japanese Studies fellowship program
The Japan Foundation is currently accepting applications for its fellowship programme, which aims to give scholars and researchers working in the field of Japanese studies the chance to travel abroad to conduct research and further Japanese studies.

Classifications
This programme is divided into three categories:
Academics and Researchers (Long-Term) (4 to 12 months): Academics and researchers who, at the time of application, hold a Ph.D. or have equivalent professional experience and who are using methods from the humanities and social sciences to conduct research related to Japan (including comparative research). Some of these projects require the researchers to travel to Japan for an extended period of time on research.
Scholars and Researchers (Short-Term) (21–89 days): Scholars and researchers with a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience at the time of application who are using methods from the humanities and social sciences to conduct research related to Japan (including comparative research). Their projects require them to travel to Japan for short periods of time in order to conduct intensive research, gather materials, etc.
Doctoral Candidates (4 to 12 months): PhD candidates who are conducting research on Japan (including comparative research) using methods from the social sciences and humanities, who have completed (or will complete by the start of the Fellowship) the required course work and who feel that visiting Japan is necessary to finish their dissertations.

Additional Information
Advantages given once:
- Travel: Cheap round-trip economy class airfare (the quickest route from the applicant's location to Japan) (Fellows who were in Japan prior to the Fellowship's start date will only be given a one-way ticket for their return trip);
- Allowance for settling in: 250,000 yen (fellows who were in Japan prior to the Fellowship's start date are not technically eligible for this benefit);
- 50,000 yen is the departure allowance (fellows who will, in theory, stay in Japan once their fellowship is over are not eligible for this stipend).
- Health certificate: up to 50,000 yen
- Insurance: Policy for overseas travellers
Benefits each month
- Stipend each month (to support living and research costs):
- Long-Term Scholars and Researchers: 400,000 yen
- Candidates for Doctorates: 310,000 yen
- Supplementary dependent allowance (if any): 10,000 yen per person
- If applicable, enrollment costs: up to 25,000 yen
Academics and Investigators (Short-Term)
- Daily rate: 17,000 yen
- Travel: Cheap round-trip economy class airfare (the quickest route from the applicant's location to Japan) (Fellows who were in Japan prior to the Fellowship's start date will only be given a one-way ticket for their return journey.)
- Health certificate: up to 50,000 yen
- Insurance: Policy for international travellers.
